Vegas Night Update: Thank you to everyone for supporting Vegas Night whether purchasing a raffle ticket or attending the event. It was a fun evening for all!! Approximately $8000 was the profit that will go into the technology fund at our school. The winner of the raffle for free tuition was Monica and Mike Higgins. Congratulations. Other winners that evening included the Wolter family (flat screen TV), the Zoulek family (computer notebook) and Lisa Smale (digital camera). Thank you to the many staff and parents who volunteered at the event and especially to Linda and Larry Luchi for the planning of our Vegas night. Outstanding job by all!!!
Thank You Teachers: We extend our thanks to our music and art teachers. We had a wonderful evening last night. We enjoyed the artistic talents of our students whether watching them in the variety show or viewing the many art displays. Mrs. Bean, Mrs. Bell, and Mr. Miller are to be thanked for bringing out the many talents of our students. We also thank the PSA for their donation of the ice cream to really make the evening special. Colleen Moscone and Shelly Dettore set up all of the ice cream and toppings- thank you. A special thank you as well to our faculty scoopers- Kathy Haller, Lori Zoulek, Val Studt, Jackie Vine, Barb Jones, Pat Bilas and Avis Hermans. Much of our art work will be on display next week as we celebrate our Star Day. Please make sure you stop in and see it.
Star Day: Our annual “Star Day” event is scheduled for Wednesday, April 28th. Please begin inviting your stars to this event if you have not already done so. Each student is encouraged to invite a “star” person in their life to join them in school that morning. Informational fliers and volunteer forms are attached to the newsletter. Both of these forms need to be returned to school. We do need a count of how many people will be attending the event, so please send them back to school on Monday. Please remember that we will have a noon dismissal on that day.
Registration Forms: We are sending home today registration forms for the 2010/11 school year to our current school families who have not yet returned them. If you are not planning on returning to St. William in the fall, it would be appreciated if you could let us know. For most of you, I’m sure it’s just a matter of not yet completing the paperwork. Thank you!
Scrip/Kroger Orders: Last year, School Committee assisted with the implementation of our Scrip program. All money that is earned through this program supports the scholarship needs of the students who attend our school. Gift cards can be purchased for numerous stores and restaurants with an average of 6-10% of the gift card total coming back to St. William School. Kroger is even easier for us to earn money for our school. This program needs to be renewed annually so please take a moment the next time you are in the store to register your Kroger card (even if you are currently donating to the program). The number for St. William School is 83980 and this can be linked to your card through the service desk at any Kroger store. Each time you make a purchase, 5% of your total will be donated back to our school and you will see your total donation on the bottom of each of your grocery receipts. Encourage all of your friends, neighbors and family to register their Kroger card as well. Every little bit helps. Since the Scrip program was launched last spring, our school has earned approximately $6,000. We are capable of even more.
Sacramental Celebration: Each year, we have a special celebration for our children and their families who have received the sacrament of First Eucharist or Confirmation. We will begin with Mass at 8:15 a.m. on Wednesday, May 12th followed by a reception in the Activity Center. We ask that you please let us know how many guests will be attending this event. Please contact the school office. We also have coordinated a photographer to come on that day for individual portraits. This too must be scheduled in advance. Again, please contact the school office for your photo session time.
Communion/Confirmation Portraits Available: As in years past, we have asked a professional photographer to be at St. William on May 12th for our sacramental celebration. She will be available, on a scheduled basis, to take individual student pictures. The office will begin scheduling appointments for families who wish to take advantage of this opportunity. Price sheets will be available on that day for you to be able to order portraits. Students will be coming to school on this day either in their Communion or Confirmation clothes. Please call the office next week to reserve your portrait time.
Dads’ Club Golf Outing: The 15th Annual St. William Dads’ Club Golf Outing will be at 9:30am on May 22nd at Hawk Meadows Golf Course in Howell, MI. The Dads’ Club supports the athletic programs for all of the kids at St. William. The proceeds from the golf outing will go to support these programs. Please sign up to come out, have a great time and support the kids of St. William. It will be a scramble format tournament which will include a continental breakfast, lunch at the turn, and a dinner and awards program after that. We will also have a silent auction and a 50/50 drawing that will run all day. Please pass the attached form on to everyone who you know loves to golf. For more information on signing up for the outing or sponsorship opportunities (which are also needed) please go to the Dad’s Club website (www.saintwilliam.net) , call Mike Eischen at (248) 894-3717 or send an e-mail to golf_director@saintwilliam.net
Used Uniform Sale: We will be having a used uniform sale on Monday, April 26th. The sale will be held in Lower Zepf from noon until 4 p.m. We will not be able to accept any additional used uniforms for this sale since we have a huge surplus of items at this time. All uniform pants will be sold for $1. All shirts, shorts, skorts, jumpers, sweatshirts and accessories will also be on sale at a huge savings. This is the final used uniform sale of the school year so plan to stop in and shop.
Relay for Life Event: Relay for Life is May 15th and 16th and will be held at Geisler Middle School on Pontiac Trail in Walled Lake. Relay is the major fund raiser for the American Cancer Society. Each day, lots of people are diagnosed with cancer in Oakland County alone. It’s time to get involved…….how are you going to help? Below are some options;
Lunch Schedule: Please review the attached schedule and fill in where you are able to. Contact Laura Pace with the days that you are available. It is important to remember that in order to go outside with the children we must have at least six monitors. We have been scrambling each day since the Easter break to make sure that we can get the children outside. Thank you!!!
Daddy/Daughter Dance: The girls were all given a flier today detailing the St. William Annual Daddy/Daughter Dance. The dance will be held on May 21st. Mark your calendar now and send in your reservation forms.
Scholarship Opportunity: The Michigan Catholic Credit Union has created a “Make a Difference” Scholarship Program to award educational scholarships to students and families who are committed to making a differences in the lives of others through their service and volunteer work in their school, parish, and/or community. Ten scholarships, in the amount of $500 each, will be awarded this spring to selected Michigan Catholic Credit Union members. There are two categories:
Volleyball Sign Up: The St William CYO Volleyball sign up will be held on Tuesday, May 11th, and Wednesday, May 12th, in the St Paul Room from 6-8pm. which is in the Activity Center hallway. Sign up can also be done electronically via the website. All St William girls who will be in the 5th through 8th grade in the Fall are encouraged to sign up for our JV and Varsity teams. Once again, we will be having at least 4 teams in the Volleyball program allowing for better coach to player ratio and playing time. The CYO season runs from August through October. For additional information and sign up forms, check out the St William Dads' Club website at
www.saintwilliam.net or contact the Athletic Director, Todd Diffenderfer at
ad@saintwilliam.net.
Thank YOU from Denise and Karen!: Thank you for our flowers and new computers. We are looking forward to our “speedy quick” new computers!! Thank you for the wonderful Secretary’s Day.
Children’s Liturgy: In Father Michael's homily at Wednesday's liturgy, fifth graders learned we can always become a follower of Jesus. Jesus did not reject Saul, who placed people in jail for believing in God, and He will never reject us either. Instead, Jesus will wait for us as he did for Saul, who later became one of his favored Apostles. St. Paul eventually traveled about preaching the gospel of the Lord to others. God will wait for us to believe in Him because it is never too late to love God.
